’All practices must do what they can to achieve diversity within their ranks’
We are proud to support the Women in Architecture campaign for another year, and help to recognise those who are working hard to keep the issues of inequality on the agenda. The workshops with other practices have been very helpful for knowledge sharing, and we look forward to seeing the momentum gather into policies and best practice for the wider industry.
The campaign has a good balance of profile-raising and celebration of female architects, while addressing difficult home truths in the annual survey. All practices must do what they can to achieve diversity within their ranks, and at Grimshaw we have created our own group to champion women working in the built environment, to implement policy changes within the practice, to address issues around unconscious bias and to create a supportive network. Success is different for everyone, but for us it means working towards a diverse workplace where everyone’s contribution is valued, and opportunities are equal for all.
