Xiging District Housing Design by Michael Sorkin Studio, Tianjin, China

Celebrating invention and authenticity, the AR presents a snapshot of work in progress from around the world

Characterised by irregularly stacked blocks with retro radiused apertures, this extensive housing development creates a place that isdescribed as being ‘at once porous and buffered’. A green filter runs around the perimeter of the site, incorporating an existing canal andwide swathes of planting to create visual, physical and acoustic barriers screening ‘unsympathetic uses’ on the surrounding periphery.

Yet the site is also crossed by a network of pedestrian paths, locking it into the wider urban realm. To the north and south, a series ofcommercial, recreational and public uses will link into these circulation routes.
