The Stockholm Sphere by Bjarke Ingels Group, Stockholm, Sweden

Celebrating invention and authenticity, the AR presents a snapshot of work in progress from around the world

The Stockholm Sphere aims to revitalise a major motorway junction just north of the Swedish capital. At present, a three-level road interchange forms a physical and visual barrier between the surrounding neighbourhoods and divides the area into four disjointed parts.

A new landscape loop, together with a continuous cycle and a pedestrian path aligned with public buildings and functions, is intended toreconnect and re-energise the site. Above, a giant Boullée-esque sphere hovers over the remodelled terrain. Photovoltaic film will produce enough energy to keep the sphere afloat and supply more than 200 surrounding houses with electricity.
