Livsrum Cancer Hospital by Effekt Architecture with Hoffmann and Lyngkilde

This competition-winning design for a cancer counselling centre is in the tradition of the UK’s Maggie’s Centres, recognising that where high-tech interventions are not needed it is apt to design on a more domestic, welcoming scale.

Consisting of a cluster of seven linked ‘houses’ around two green spaces, its pitched roofs and use of timber distinguish it from the rest of the hospital campus, while it is still near enough to the cancer treatment ward to enable close collaboration. Facilities include a library, kitchen, conversation rooms, lounge, shops and a gym.
