House in a Crack by Vois, Antiparos, Greece

Celebrating invention and authenticity, the AR presents a snapshot of work in progress from around the world

Restrictive planning regulations and harsh topographical conditions were the toughest challenges that architect Vois faced in designing a new summerhouse on the Greek island of Antiparos. The concept of a ‘House in a Crack’ was its response.

Partly sunk within the landscape, a kinked strip of ground contains a private family house, an independent guesthouse and a small observatory. A series of pathways, pools, gardens and planted plots links these enclosed private spaces, creating a ‘crack of inhabitation’ in what is otherwise an entirely wild corner of this small island.
