House among the Ruins by Estudio Juan Domingo Santos, Granada, Spain

Celebrating invention and authenticity, the AR presents a snapshot of work in progress from around the world

This project for a series of new houses skilfully colonises and incorporates the ruins of 17th-century Casa de la Lona inGranada. The houses are set among the strata, structured around panoramic views and archaeological remains.

A historic 18th-century water tank, for instance, offers public access to a garden lookout while also acting as an entrance hall to the Unswept House and the House of the Water Tank. Manifesting a diversity of form and spatial organisation, all the houses are different, yet together they create a resonant urban whole in which architecture, archaeology and landscape are eloquently interwoven.
