Happy Cosmonauts

Jack Self

The AR’s pick of the world wide web

Today’s image is titled ‘Happy Cosmonauts’, from a collection of Soviet-era space-race graphics.

Three things of note on the old blog scene: Deconcrete, similar to BLDGBLOG and Mammoth – a new discovery for me, a nod to Marcus Trimble’s Super Colossal; The terror and romance of Sketchup, by Sam Jacob (of FAT). Kind of related, the wire-car artwork of Benedict Radcliffe. Libeskind talks at the AA (and is well received by the vocal and articulate Aram Mooradian, who has become largely regarded as the new voice of the AA student body).

Also doing the rounds, Nina Katchadourian’s charming book-title poetry and underwater sculpture: concrete people installed twenty feet below the surface (the type of art work that is certain to confuse future archaeologists). Finally, an absolutely phenomenal rendered video, probably the most realistic computer animation I have ever seen!
