Formed in 1994, Wright & Wright is a London-based practice founded by Sandy and Clare Wright, committed to the design of well-functioning, meaningful, durable and low-energy architecture. With work across a range of sectors, the studio has built particular expertise in in higher education and cultural buildings, especially archives and libraries.

Since winning a competition to design the Royal College of Art’s library in 1995, Wright & Wright have continued to pursue a portfolio of work including Corpus Christi College’s library in Cambridge, The Women’s Library in east London, and both Magdalen College’s Longwall Library and St John’s College library (nearing completion at the moment) in Oxford.

After studying at the Mackintosh School of Architecture, Clare Wright joined Howell Killick Partridge and Amis followed by a stint at the Circle 33 Housing Trust. Since co-founding Wright & Wright, Clare has worked on projects including the redevelopment of the Architectural Association and The Geffrye Museum in London and is currently leading the design of the library and archive at Lambeth Palace and the reconfiguration of Pembroke College in Oxford.

In addition to her work in the office, Wright sits on the Oxford Design Review Panel and was awards an MBE for services to architecture in 2005.

The AR Library awards celebrate creativity in buildings for books built in the last five years. This is your chance to be recognised on the global stage as a leading designer of exceptional libraries. All entries will be reviewed and 15 houses will be shortlisted by the panel. The judges’ top six will be visited by an AR critic before a decision is made on the winner. All finalists will be published in the AR’s December/January issue, with the winner featuring on the cover.
