Calligraphy Museum by Serie Architects, Linyi, China

Celebrating invention and authenticity, the AR presents a snapshot of work in progress from around the world

Dedicated to the works of the 8th-century Chinese calligrapher Yan Zhenqing, this new museum is spread across three hillside terraces on a site far away from the city. Intended as a place to reflect on the beauty of nature, as well as calligraphic treasures, the complex has a contemplative air.

The museum draws on architecture that encourages discovery and reflection, qualities seen in monasteries, as well as alluding to the traditional Chinese scholars’ garden. So the museum is not just a building, but an integrated landscape of built and natural elements, transporting visitors to a rarified world.
