A Room for London by David Kohn Architects, London, UK

Celebrating invention and authenticity, the AR presents a snapshot of work in progress from around the world

As part of the London 2012 Festival, Living Architecture and arts organisation Artangel instigated A Room for London, a design competition to create a room for two people to spend the night in a prominent London building or site.

Conceived as a beached boat with panoramic riverfront vistas, the winning project by architect David Kohn and artist Fiona Banner perches lightly on top of the Queen Elizabeth Hall in the Southbank Centre, like a piece of jaunty headgear. The house/boat can be booked for short visitor stays and will open to the public in January 2012 for one year only.
