Norman Foster's Original Diagram

A rediscovered sketch from the British Museum competition

6A – Lord Norman Foster
“The British Museum – A Working Sketch”
Pencil sketch
310 x 230mm

A rediscovered sketch from the British Museum competition submitted to the 10x10 Drawing London exhibition for Article 25. It considers the layers of time and change in London as manifest in one building.

“It summarises the different worlds that would co-exist at the prime level and below. Like a city in microcosm, it has accumulated layers of addition and change over time. What the sketch does not show is the tremendous amount of work by the team – of all disciplines – the explorations that preceded the final design. Its simplicity belies these heroic efforts!” Lord Norman Foster
