In the preceding pages we have been considering buildings which illustrate the factors making for· change in church planning. In so representational a building type, changes in style and tone are almost as important as changes in plan. These last pages of illustrations deal, then, with these. As we explained at the beginning of this issue, the monument as such is a natural form for religious man. An example of this is the Protestant Chapel of the Atonement, Dachau (architect Helmut Striffier); for though a chapel, its everyday function is clearly overshadowed by its memorial function. For this reason the monumental character, which for most churches is now thought unfitting, here is altogether to the point.
