Podcast: What makes a great house?

AR House Awards 2015 jury Adam Caruso, Sofia von Ellrichshausen and Pippo Ciorra discuss the calibre of the entries and debate a criteria for the winner

The AR House Awards celebrate excellence in one-off house design.

In this podcast, the 2015 jury Adam Caruso, Sofia von Ellrichshausen and Pippo Ciorra with AR Editor Christine Murray as chair attempt to define a set of universal criteria among such a global range of entries, negotiating the technical, material and social differences and their own cultural biases.

The jury eventually chose David Chipperfield’s Fayland House as the winner for being a radical new take on the English country house whileRyo Matsui’s Rebirth House was highly commended for its mix of old and new and Dekleva Gregorič Arhitekti’s Compact Karst House was commended for putting traditional methods to fresh purpose.
