By virtue of housing different activities, Baptist churches too have always been regarded as the home of the congregation. Because the emphasis is wholly on the Ministry of the Word that is, on bible reading and preaching-the traditional church seating arrangement, in which all seats face one way, is still preferred. Even so, at the Baptist church at Waterlooville, Hants (architect Michael Manser Associates), the use of a near square plan brings the fully articulated social space into a much closer relationship with the cult than older plans would permit.
