Mixed-use development meets fire station in a strikingly plain tower-and-podium arrangement
This exceedingly plain tower-and-podium arrangement of concrete panels has an almost Hilberseimer-esque blankness which makes for a striking contrast to the building’s semi-rural surroundings. The building is a mixed-use development for the use of the municipality: the tower has six storeys of offices and, at the top, conference rooms around an open patio. The podium houses the fire station, with an engine hall on the ground floor and dormitories on the second for the crew. The only concession to typological convention is a red accent in the form of an illuminated ‘Brandweer’ sign at the tower’s crest.
