Zaha Hadid’s reimagined Leicester Square

Leicester Square is reinvented as a vast playground of underground skyscrapers

Zaha Hadid’s contribution to the 10x10 Drawing the City London exhibition is a reimagination of Leicester Square as a subterranean public room. Skypscrapers and voids extend deep below the diminutive London cityscape. She says of her piece: “Solid and transparent skyscrapers slice into the earth as accommodation, or others as inverted canyons with water cascading down. Light beams through the voids and solids of this new sub terrain as a reminder of the city’s familiar fabric hovering above.”
