Tendencies of Sensational Openings

Openings in facades are typically seen as controllers of environmental factors such as light, heat and ventilation. In addition to these functions, they also serve as points of entry into the building. Needless to say, openings in a facade also play a vital role in framing the city within the architecture itself. This thesis aims to investigate the sensation and effect of openings in a facade, by looking at designing a building from the outside-in. This sensation can be further elaborated by understanding openings as thresholds - the interstitial zone between two entities. These thresholds explore the connection between the outside and the inside, and present the idea of openings not as a two dimensional element that only exists on the facade of a building, but one that begins from the facade and that starts to perpetuate itself throughout the entire build
