Top Ten London Architecture Units
The 2010 end-of-year shows in the London design schools showed the educational strength and diversity England’s capital city has to offer to the architects of tomorrow.
All of the five institutions that I visited over a few days last month had evolved from the previous year, The Bartlett and London Metropolitan particularly so.
For these ‘Top Ten Units’ - seven at Part 2 level and three at Part 1 - I have mostly been guided by who won the most prizes (my excuse for the vanity of including the unit I teach with at the Royal College of Art) and those that particularly caught my eye, such as Unit 14 at the AA, a new arrival at the school that seems to be polemically attacking the school’s prided parametricism. I hope you enjoy the richness, inventiveness and audacity of the student projects revealed here.
Design Studio 15 - University of Westminster
Unit 6 - London Metropolitan University
Unit 23 - Bartlett School, UCL
Unit 11 - Bartlett School, UCL
Unit 9 - Architectural Association
Unit 14 - Architectural Association
Plus, come back over the next fortnight as we will be spotlighting ten architecture graduates from across the globe, which further exposes the varied concerns of the world’s young architectural community.
