Tutor: Axel Kilian
Beauty’s Found Geometries
Working with Axel Kilian, a computer design specialist, student Jonathan Enns looked not at the usual curvilinear surfaces associated with digital design, but at natural form: actual, physical trees. He scanned tree trunks on site, digitised the information and devised a unique approach not only to preserve the natural features of his chosen site - the Nakashima Studio in New Hope Pennsylvania - but to ‘build with nature’ in a new way, assisted by the most sophisticated digital design tools available today. He designed a pavilion striking in its own right as an architectural proposition, but also suggestive of new design principles that could have a wider impact in the field.
